Days after Tanzania’s minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Minister, Dr Hamisi Kigwangalla outlined Standard operating procedures for the reopening of the tourism industry in Tanzania major airlines are set to resume their passenger flights from mid-June.

Among the airlines who have scheduled flights to Tanzania include, Qatar Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, and Flydubai. Qatar Airways and Flydubai airlines will be the first middle east registered airlines to fly to Tanzania this month before other airlines follow the suit.

Ethiopian Airlines was the first African-registered passenger schedule airline to land in Tanzania’s northern tourist city of Arusha through the Kilimanjaro International Airport on June 1, making it the first international carrier to land in Tanzania after this African nation opened its skies for tourists. Qatar Airline’s officials said that resumption of the Doha-based airline on June 16 will be the first direct passenger schedule flight from Hamad International Airport to Africa since the suspension of flights in March this year due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Earlier on, the Tanzanian government issued instructions requiring all arriving flights to have an Advance Passenger Information System (APIS), compliant so as to allow Tanzania’s Immigration Department and Airport Authorities to receive and interrogate the flight manifest for possible high-risk passengers. Additionally, any passenger aboard the flight who has traveled to and from any of the listed high-risk countries or regions may be subjected to tests by the Ministry of Health Officials.
