With the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Airport set to reopen for international passenger service from Aug 1, a number of Airlines have announced dates for flights to the Kenyan capital.
British Airways, Emirates Airlines, Qatar Airways, Air France, and Flag carrier Kenya Airways have all announced resumption of flights to in and out of Kenya.
As expected with suppressed demand, airlines have adapted to the situation and some began with once-weekly service to four times a week.
British Airways will be flying 4 times from August 1 on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday’s and Sundays.
“ Dear esteemed customer, We are pleased to inform you that British Airways will be resuming international travel into and out of Nairobi on the 1st of August 2020. The airline will operate 4 weekly flights; Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.”
Air France will begin with once a flight to in and from JKIA on Fridays.
KLM from 6th August will also begin 4 times weekly flights on Monday Wednesday Fridays and Saturdays.
Gulf carriers Emirates and Qatar have both also released dates for passenger service to Kenya. While Qatar Airways is to start 14 weekly flights to Kenya from August 3 subject to regulatory approval, Emirates aside advertising its repatriation flights on 28th July is yet to release information on schedule service.
What however seems not clear is the absence of official communication on the procedures to be followed both before and arrival at the airport. There has been opposition by the tourism federation on the suggestion for mandatory quarantine.
