Jacinta Nzioka elected Deputy Chair, International Congress and Convention Association

Taubie Motlhabane and Jacinta Nzioka have been elected as Chapter Chair and Deputy respectively for the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Africa region.

The two are to steer the affairs of the Africa chapter for the next two years.

Taubie who is the CEO of the Cape Town International Convention Centre beat off competition from Kenya’s Nana Wanjiku Gecaga to become the new chair.

In an email to its members, ICCA confirmed the result in percentage terms and congratulated the duo.

“Dear ICCA Member,

It is with great pleasure we can announce to you the final election results for the position of Africa Chapter Chair.
The two candidates were:

• Ms. Taubie Motlhabane, Cape Town International Convention Centre
Nominated and second by:
Ms. Lillian Hlabangane, Tshwane Economic Development Agency
Mr. Gill Slaughter, Turners Conferences
• Ms. Nana Wanjiku Gecaga, Kenyatta international Convention Centre
Nominated and second by:
Mr. Fredrick Okeyo Okeng’o, Kenya Tourism Board
Ms. Jacinta Nzioka, Kenya National Convention Bureau
After counting the votes, the results are as follows:
• Ms. Taubie Motlhabane : 54% of the total number of votes
• Ms. Nana Wanjiku Gecaga: 46% of the total number of votes

She will be assisted by Kenya’s National Convention Bureau National Coordinator Jacinta Nzioka. Ms Nzioka was appointed as the Deputy Chapter chair in June 2017 by the ICCA board.

Commenting on the appointment, Ms Nzioka said “I am excited to take up the position of ICCA Africa Chapter deputy chair and the opportunity to make an effective contribution to strengthening Kenya’s and Africa’s position in the international association meetings arena.”

ICCA encompasses all major stakeholders in the world of association meetings.
